‘We need a new website design. It must reflect our ethos. No fuss, uncluttered and direct design’
Topright were commissioned to create this website design for this amazing aerial theatre arts company Ockhams Razor who are represented by Turtle Key Arts, who combine circus and visual theatre to make work that is arresting and entertaining. Hailed as a ‘miracle of co-operation’ by The Guardian and ‘Special work’ by The Times, this company have used topright’s services for most of their shows’ promotional items. To give maximum impact, the website design features elements throughout the site which sit within the ‘site width’. Other elements that extend to ‘full background width’.

The presentation
Topright designed a presentation showing visual cues and suggestions based on discussions in meetings and following conversations with the client. The presentation included page layouts, functionality and visuals.
Functionality
Topright included all the interactive features one would expect from a high-end website. Firstly, a new brand colour was applied. In addition, features such as: latest news feed; latest gallery feed; scrolling auto play quotes; visual menu rollovers. The website design has been created with a responsive ‘stacking’ functionality in mind.
Font and colour use
The website is packed full of imagery and carefully designed typography. The font used is Raleway. Chosen for it’s versatility, suitability and communication qualities, this Google font is used as HTML. It is embedded in the website. It compliments the identity.
Overall the site makes use of lots of white space. It is important that there is plenty of space above and below rows. The subtle greys give structure to the website in their solid form without being ‘too much’. In the main, the dark grey is used for typography and the ‘Ockham’s yellow’ is used for interactive sections throughout the website design. The balance between accessibility and design is struck by using large text and clearly marked out areas with good contrast. ‘Buttons’ are used for links in most cases and these have larger text than ‘body text.
The outcome
Topright design produced a bold and professional website that gives a feeling of space and form. The website functionality features make the website design interesting and engaging for visitors.
