“Create something that is engaging and age-appropriate for the younger viewer”.
Merlin Entertainments is the largest European entertainments company operating 124 attractions in 25 countries across four continents. These include some local favourites; Thorpe Park, Legoland, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, London Eye, Madame Tussauds and SEA LIFE.
topright were asked to create a visual illustration for Weymouth SEA LIFE to highlight the ongoing plastic pollution problem in the world’s oceans and rivers. This illustration would be displayed in the entrance to their ‘New Ideas Zone’ where guests are given a first look experience at three brand new features and are then able to give their opinions on which concepts should be further developed and rolled out globally.
The illustration needed to be age-appropriate, colourful and engaging to catch the eyes of passing guests but most importantly had to capture their imaginations, be hard-hitting and visually educate viewers on the issue. By illustrating a selection of underwater creatures, some endangered (like the sea turtle) showing sorrowful expressions, surrounded by bottles, plastic bags and a huge mass of floating plastic was a clever way to help increase understanding and especially encourage the younger viewers to make a change for the future.
